Dem. Presidential Candidates Speak at Iowa Farm Forum

Five contenders for the Democratic nomination for president spoke Nov. 10 at a presidential summit hosted by Iowa farming groups and sponsored by the Iowa Farmers Union.

Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, and Illinois Sen. Barak Obama gathered in downtown Des Moines to attend the 2007 Food and Family Farm President Summit's "A Conversation on Food, Agriculture, the Environment, and Rural Economies in America."

During the seven-hour event, each candidate had an opportunity to address the crowd on topics such as strengthening rural livelihoods, ensuring food safety, developing renewable energy, and supporting the family farmer.

The Iowa Democratic Caucus has yet to be scheduled; however, it is likely the Democrats will join the Republicans on Jan. 3.
