Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Vancouver offers travelers both outstanding opportunities for outdoor adventure and the sophisticated amenities of a world-class city. Take advantage of the city's Oceanside location, with plenty of green space and many recreation opportunities in the mountains 20 minutes north of downtown. After a busy day, linger over a glass of BC wine and a locally inspired meal, or unwind at one of Vancouver's unique spas.
While this sea-level port city is known for its temperate climate, the surrounding snow-covered slopes are perfect for winter sports and breathtaking views of the city twinkling below. Vancouver is one of the few places in the world where it's possible to ski in the morning and sail in the afternoon.
Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the Vancouver Convention Centre offers a beautiful setting and convenient access to all the major visitor amenities in the downtown core. All association meetings, food functions and the Marketplace for Mutuals will be held at the convention center, making it the central hub for all activities.
Vancouver Convention Centre
Multiple hotel options are offered to convention attendees in order to provide a wide variety of service levels and costs. Six hotels will be a part of the convention block, all located within a short walk of the convention center. Below is a listing of the hotel options, along with a link with more details and room rates to help compare hotel options.
Once you register for the convention, you will receive a link to make room reservations at the special NAMIC group rate in your confirmation email. Please keep in mind that all room rates are shown in Canadian currency, and the actual U.S. equivalent will be different depending on the exchange rate at the time of payment.
Occasionally, groups claiming to be a “Convention Housing Bureau” (or a similar name) have contacted registered and/or regular attendees of the NAMIC Annual Convention claiming the ability to secure room reservations at the official NAMIC hotel in September at a discounted rate. Please be aware that these companies are not authorized to represent NAMIC, and cannot secure rooms within the group room block. Unfortunately, this problem is becoming more prevalent among convention groups. If you are considering alternative housing arrangements for the Annual Convention, please keep in mind that there are benefits to booking your reservation through NAMIC including discounted rates, protected reservations, and the ability for NAMIC staff to assist you with a reservation should you experience a problem. Please alert NAMIC should you be contacted directly by a company in regards to making room reservations for the convention. Read More >>
Passport and Visa Requirements
As an important note, everyone entering Canada from another country will need to have a Passport or Visa prior to arriving at the boarder or coming in to the airport. Please click here for details regarding passport and visa requirements. Passport processing times can vary depending on the time of year, and occasional unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, but it is recommended to allow at least 6 weeks.
Please keep in mind that all room rates are shown in Canadian currency, and the actual U.S. equivalent will be different depending on the exchange rate at the time of the convention. You can check the current exchange rate for the Canadian dollar at any time by going to a currency calculator at: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/exchange/daily-converter/.
While the U.S. dollar is generally accepted by vendors in Canada, it may be beneficial to have some Canadian currency. Money can be exchanged at the airport or prior to arrival. The use of a credit card is also a good option to avoid having to deal with exchanging large amounts of cash; foreign transaction fees may apply when using credit cards.
Attendees can utilize ICE Currency Services, including a convenient “Click and Collect” online foreign currency reservation service and pick up and pay before you fly. Other services include: 24-hour currency exchange, travel cheques, travel insurance, calling cards, fax and photocopy services at their eight airport locations. For more information and airport location details, click here.
Check with your cellular phone service provider for the general rules, rates and restrictions for cellular service in Canada. Higher rates may apply, especially when using data or making calls to the U.S. Most cellular carriers offer some type of International service options that could be beneficial.
