NAMIC Expresses Need for Flood Reform at Senate Banking Committee Hearing

NAMIC provided testimony today at a hearing of the Senate Banking Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Development titled “The National Flood Insurance Program: The Need for Long-Term Reauthorization and Reform.”

NAMIC expressed its support for S. 1940, the Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act of 2011, which responsibly reauthorizes the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) while enacting real reform. Since S. 1940 unanimously passed out of the Senate Banking Committee last September, the reform effort now awaits Majority Leader Harry Reid’s scheduling the bill for a Senate Floor vote.

The push for Senate action on flood insurance has been significantly aided by the “Flood the Hill” campaign this month, first developed by NAMIC Federal Affairs staff in April. “Flood the Hill” now includes fourteen trade associations representing 76,571 companies; four professional associations representing 1,496,000 individual members; two environmental groups representing 5,000,000 individual members; and eight private companies representing 219,893 employees.

NAMIC members may join the Flood the Hill campaign by contacting your U.S. Senator today. To take action today, please click HERE.
