On March 11, NAMIC Chairman Sandy Parrillo testified before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity on reform proposals for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The first panel of the hearing was to include Craig Fugate, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but due to the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan, he was called away and could not attend. With many of the members of the subcommittee eager to ask Mr. Fugate questions regarding the operation of the NFIP, Chairwoman Judy Biggert, R-Ill., has decided to hold another hearing this Friday to allow him to testify.
