Utah: Bad Faith Bill on Governor’s Desk

SB 62, UM/UIM, bad faith, passed out of the House on a 65-9-14 vote and out of the Senate on a 25-1-3 vote last Thursday and is now on the governor’s desk for his signature. The bill becomes effective on the date the governor signs it. However, it applies only to accidents that occur after that date, not to claims already pending. This was a significant victory for insurers and was a point of contention of the plaintiffs’ bar, which was fighting right up to the end.
