Chance for Reform and Long-Term Reauthorization of the NFIP This Year

With the short term extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through February 28, 2010, the future of the program is still uncertain. However, there may be hope this year for a long-term reauthorization accompanied by the necessary reforms that NAMIC has been promoting. These reforms include updating flood maps, the phase-in of actuarial rates for some properties, increased penalties for non-compliance, mitigation programs, maximum coverage limits, and borrowing authority.
