NAMIC Asks FTC to Use Data Depository to Collect Homeowners’ Information from Insurers

The Federal Trade Commission’s plan to subpoena insurers for information for an ongoing study was the subject of a meeting between NAMIC representatives and FTC commissioners last week. In advance of the FTC’s second draft of its Homeowners Insurance Credit Scoring study, NAMIC along with other property/casualty trade associations suggested using a third party to gather information if subpoenas will be issued. NAMIC and the other trades maintain the FTC does not have the authority to issue subpoenas.
