In our NAIC Preview, we reported being told by NAIC staff just days before the beginning of the fall meeting that the Climate Change and Global Warming (EX) Task Force would cancel its expected vote on its Climate Risk Disclosure Proposal. This information proved accurate. During the first of two scheduled task force meetings, Chairman Sean Dilweg of Wisconsin explained that he decided to cancel the vote after reviewing numerous comment letters received from interested parties regarding the latest draft of the proposal, which was released on Aug. 15. He didn’t mention that the comment letters were uniformly negative, nor did he attempt to characterize the nature of the criticism expressed in the letters. Instead, he vowed to continue working with fellow task force members and interested parties to revise the proposal in time for a vote at the NAIC winter meeting in December. He promised to circulate a new draft within the next few weeks.
