The legislative study commission created to review the potential impact of a significant hurricane on North Carolina’s insurance market is scheduled to conduct its first meeting on Sept. 30 in Raleigh.
Commission members have been appointed and are charged with reporting back to the General Assembly on or before Feb. 1, 2009.
“We certainly are pleased that commission co-chairs Senator Tony Rand and Representative Hugh Holliman are anxious to begin work on this important topic,” said Liz Reynolds, NAMIC Southeast state affairs manager. “The health of the beach plan affects not only coastal North Carolinians, but folks in the western part of the state, as well. Perhaps the state’s recent brush with Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hanna has provided a dose of reality commission members can use to scrutinize North Carolina’s exposure and determine how best to manage that risk for the financial stability of the entire state.”
