New Hampshire: Sevigny Confirmed for New Five-year Term

New Hampshire’s Executive Council voted last week to approve the reappointment of Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny to a new five-year term. Sevigny, who was named to the commissioner post in 2003, is currently president-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Until recently, it was uncertain whether Gov. John Lynch, a Democrat, would reappoint Sevigny, who was originally appointed by Republican Craig Benson.

“Commissioner Sevigny is well respected as a thoughtful and reasonable regulator,” commented Paul Tetrault, Northeast state affairs manager for NAMIC. “Because of his status at the NAIC, his reappointment means stability and continuity that is beneficial not only for insurers in New Hampshire but also for the entire industry.”

Sevigny served as assistant commissioner under his immediate predecessor. He joined the Department of Insurance following a 30-year career at Travelers.
