NAMIC Raises Concerns Over Proposed Federal Insurance Office

A leading member of the House Financial Services Committee surprised attendees at a congressional hearing last week with plans to seek a new federal office addressing insurance. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski, D-Pa., who chairs the committee’s Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises, unveiled his proposal late Thursday to create the Office of Insurance Information within the Treasury Department.
