Rhode Island: Auto Body Shops Riled by Industry-supported Bills

A package of auto body bills supported by NAMIC and other members of the insurance industry was considered by the House Corporations Committee at a March 19 hearing, incensing representatives of the auto body industry.

Among the matters on the committee’s agenda were several proposals supported by insurers, including bills dealing with the right to reinspect, notice prior to dismantling, refunding deductibles, and labor rates.

"During the past several years, the auto body association has been able to get unfavorable legislation enacted," said Paul Tetrault, NAMIC's Northeast state affairs manager. "NAMIC is working with a coalition of industry representatives seeking to end this trend as well as proposing bills that would reverse some of the problematic changes that have been made or make other changes to the repair process.”
