Tennessee: Accident Response Fees Ban Passes House

The ban on "accident taxes," HB 2547, passed the Tennessee Senate yesterday, less than a week after passing the House March 13.

“Tennessee legislators understand the need to ban the practice of ‘double taxation’ that municipalities throughout the country seem intent on implementing,” said Liz Reynolds, NAMIC' Southeast state affairs manager. “Members of the industry in Tennessee worked together to quickly shepherd this bill through the General Assembly so that this issue will be laid to rest there.”

The bill now goes to the governor for his signature.

A similar proposal, HB 4797, has been introduced in South Carolina. It could be taken up by the appropriate subcommittee as early as next week.
