Rhode Island: House Committee to Take Up Auto Body Bills

The House Corporations Committee is scheduled to consider a number of bills dealing with auto repair issues at a March 19 hearing.

Among the matters on the committee’s agenda are several bills being pushed by a trade association representing auto body repair shops and opposed by insurers as well as measures that are backed by insurers.

Bills that are supported by insurers include those dealing with the right to reinspect, notice prior to dismantling, and labor rates.

“The auto body shops have been able to get a considerable amount of unfavorable legislation passed in recent years,” noted Paul Tetrault, NAMIC's Northeast state affairs manager. “NAMIC is working with a coalition of industry representatives dedicated to putting an end to this trend and advocating for sensible changes.”
