Arizona: Insurance Scoring Bill Fails to Pass Bill Cut-off Deadline, Dies in Committee

An insurance scoring adverse action notice bill and credit history use bill formally died in committee on March 6, the House bill cut-off deadline for bills to come out of their assigned legislative committees.

HB 2635 was assigned to the House Committee on Commerce, the House Committee on Rules, and the House Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance on Jan. 31.

“Fortunately for insurance consumers, HB 2635 was pretty much dead-on-arrival this session,” said Christian j. Rataj, NAMIC’s Western state affairs manager, “because legislators in Arizona understand that the proposed legislation would have needlessly interfered with the current credit-based insurance scoring system in the state, conflicted with federal law on adverse action notification, and created underwriting problems that would have hindered carriers in their ability to provide consumers with fair and equitable risk-based insurance rates.”
