Arizona: NAMIC Files Written Testimony Supporting Salvage Title Bill

NAMIC filed written testimony Feb. 6 with the Arizona Legislature in support of SB 1165, a salvage title bill.

"The proposed legislation will allow insurance carriers who are having difficulty securing a properly endorsed certificate of title from the vehicle owner to apply directly to the state for a legal transfer of title,” said Christian J. Rataj, NAMIC’s Western state affairs manager. “This will help streamline the claims adjusting process for insurers and expedite the settlement of total-loss or stolen motor vehicle insurance claims."

SB 1165 passed out of the Senate Committee on Transportation on a unanimous 4-0-1 vote. It will now be heard in the Senate Rules Committee.

In NAMIC's written testimony, Rataj argued that SB 1165 will help streamline and expedite the claims settlement process; assist carriers in their attempt to control administrative cost-drivers that impact insurance rates; and help insurers timely recover their insured’s auto insurance collision coverage deductible.

"SB 1165 is a reasonable and appropriate administrative measure designed to promote the best interests of the insurance consumer,” Rataj said. “NAMIC will continue to monitor and support this pending legislation as it works its way through the state Legislature."
