On March 30, Gov. Bill Richardson signed SB 165, the consumer credit report security freeze bill, into law. The law goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2008.
According to NAMIC's Western State Affairs Manager Christian J. Rataj, the new law provides consumers with a reasonable and practical mechanism to restrict access to their consumer credit reports, without creating an unnecessary delay for insurers to access an applicant's credit report for purposes of providing the consumer with a timely insurance rate.
