In the past few years, we have talked a lot about the importance of our industry having critical leadership in critical times. Without it, we run the risk of seeing the businesses that generations of mutual insurance leaders have worked so hard to create, maintain, and grow trampled underfoot of the unintended – and intended – consequences of government regulation. We have come a long way since the financial services regulatory reform debate began in Washington in September 2008. It goes without saying that these have indeed been critical times. As we near the end of this long process, we can take some measure of satisfaction as we look back and realize that, as an industry and a trade association, we have indeed offered critical leadership throughout.
