In Washington D.C., the Senate recently joined the House and passed historic legislation that will overhaul the entire financial services regulatory system in the United States. As the two chambers now go to conference to reconcile their different versions, NAMIC is communicating with the conferees about the need to protect the property/casualty insurance industry. Meanwhile, a particularly intense hurricane season has been predicted, yet Congress has again decided to delay the much-needed reform and reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program and allow the program to lapse. Instead, the House Financial Services Committee has been busy passing a "Beach House Bailout," legislation that would incentivize the creation of distorted insurance markets like in Florida and something NAMIC has been working to prevent.
