NAMIC and the BuildStrong Coalition will be featured next Tuesday July 24 calling on Congress to encourage stronger homes and businesses through public policy. Rod Matthews, P&C Operations Vice President from State Farm Insurance Companies will be testifying at a House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee hearing on July 24th at 10:00 a.m. EST. The hearing is titled “A Review of Building Codes and Mitigation Efforts to Help Minimize the Costs Associated with Natural Disasters” and will focus on H.R. 2069, the Safe Building Code Incentive Act.
The hearing will highlight the importance of strong building codes to reducing property damage, cutting the federal debt and, most importantly, saving lives. The NAMIC-led BuildStrong Coalition has made this bill the most widely supported natural disaster mitigation proposal in Congress while building industry and key stakeholder support at the same time. Just this week, the bipartisan co-chairmen of the Congressional Fire Caucus sent a letter to its member seeking their sponsorship of the Safe Building Code Incentive Act.
In addition to NAMIC, Julie Rochman, President of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), Rep. Mario Diaz Balart (R-FL), and representatives from FEMA and the International Association of Fire Chiefs will also testify in support of the legislation.
The hearing will be aired via webcast on July 24 at 10:00 a.m. EST on the website of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
