Gov.-elect Bill Haslam won’t be at Tennessee’s helm for five more days, but apparently he plans to hit the ground running with a regulatory team unique to his administration. Today, Haslam announced that he has appointed attorney Julie McPeak to be the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.
McPeak is an insurance regulatory attorney in Nashville but also has regulatory experience from serving as the executive director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance. Before that post, she served as KOI’s general counsel. McPeak was quoted on Haslam’s website, saying that she plans to focus on growing the “domestic insurance industry” in Tennessee, signaling the possibility of balanced regulation in a free market. NAMIC looks forward to working with McPeak and wishes her well in her new post.
