Oklahoma: Senate Bills Reforming Joint, Several Liability, Non-Economic Damages, Workers Compensation Advance

Civil justice reform took three steps forward during the past week in Oklahoma as the Senate Judiciary Committee recommended that SB 878, comprehensive workers’ compensation reform, be reported “Do Pass” to the floor. In addition, the Senate debated and passed SB 863, which lowers the amount of non-economic damages that can be awarded, from $400,000 to $250,000 and also clarified exceptions to the law, and SB 862, which repeals joint and several liability in tort.
