Florida: Bad Faith Reform Stopped by Trial Bar

Last week’s positive attention and strong support by Gov. Rick Scott and others for PIP reform in the form of HB 119 was marred by a defeat of bad faith reform on Thursday. The House Civil Justice Subcommittee voted 7-8 to defeat HB 427, which would have provided insurers a reasonable time to settle third-party claims and avoid “gotcha” bad faith lawsuits.
