GRAPEVINE, Texas (Sept. 17, 2007) - Art Meadows, PFMM, president/CEO of Panhandle Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., Moundsville, W.V., has been named Professional Farm Mutual Manager of the Year by the Farm Mutual Conference of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). The award was presented during the Farm Mutual Conference's annual meeting, held during the 112th NAMIC Annual Convention.
Created in 2002 to recognize excellence in management of farm mutual insurance companies, the award is the culmination of the Professional Farm Mutual Manager (PFMM) designation program. An award recipient must be a PFMM designate performing at a high level in marketing, administrative and financial management. Award winners are nominated by colleagues in the farm mutual insurance industry.
Meadows was cited for outstanding activity in his industry as president of the West Virginia Association of Mutual Insurance Cos., membership in the West Virginia Insurance Federation, and contributions to the Governors’ Task Force on Tort Reform. A member of the NAMIC Farm Mutual Conference board of directors, Meadows is a frequent class leader in NAMIC educational events and is also a recipient of the NAMIC Service Award and NAMIC Merit Award.
A description of Meadows’ contributions to his company was an important part of award nomination credentials:
“Art developed a business plan that successfully pulled the company from financial supervision in six short months. He created a new method of succession planning for small domestic companies, and our company is working on its fifth year of achieving underwriting profit. Surplus has grown by 550 percent in four years. In 2003, the company was near the point of no return, and through Art’s leadership, the company has turned itself into a financially sound operation with steady, but moderate growth.”
