Congress last night reauthorized the National Flood Insurance Program through the month of May as well as retroactively enacted the program through both of its recent lapses. The extension language was included in legislation along with temporary extensions of highway funding programs, unemployment benefits, Medicare payments for physicians, and satellite television to rural Americans. The extenders package passed by a vote of 59-38 in the Senate and 289-112 in the House shortly afterwards. President Obama signed the bill into law less than an hour after final passage.
