NFIP Lapses After Extender Bill is Blocked
The National Flood Insurance Program expired Monday after the Senate was unable to pass an extension bill to keep the program running. The NFIP was included in a package of short term extensions to several other spending programs, including unemployment insurance and the COBRA program that allows people who lose their job to continue getting their health benefits covered, which was brought to the Senate floor last Thursday.
