Minnesota: City of Rochester Authorized to Collect Fire Surcharge

NAMIC’s state trade advocacy partner, the Insurance Federation of Minnesota, reports that as a result of the 2010 Census, the city of Rochester is now a city of the first class per state statutes. This changes the applicability of many Minnesota statutes, the most important for NAMIC members being that the city will be able to levy a 2 percent surcharge on fire and other direct premiums collected for property within the city.
