Congressional Conference Committee Continues Work on Reshaping Financial Services Regulation

A year and a half after work began on addressing the economic crisis and reforming the nation’s regulation of the financial services industry, the conference committee chaired by House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., began its deliberations last week. Using the Senate bill as the base text, the House is allowed to first offer changes to that bill on a title-by-title basis. The Senate can then make a counteroffer, a process that began at the beginning of last week and will continue until both chambers accept identical versions of the legislation.
