NAMIC Commends Michigan Supreme Court Ruling on Credit-Based Insurance Scoring

NAMIC applauds the Michigan Supreme Court that ruled yesterday in a 4-3 decision to reverse a Court of Appeals decision, thereby reinstating the trial court holding that the insurance scoring rules enacted five years ago by the Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation are invalid. Essentially, the court held that insurers’ use of credit-based insurance scores does not violate the Michigan Insurance Code, as the state’s insurance commissioner had claimed.
