Gov. Nikki Haley today named Ray Farmer as director of the state's insurance department. Farmer is a long-time executive with the American Insurance Association.
"Ray has worked in South Carolina, as well as other southeastern states, for many years," said Liz Reynolds, Southeast state affairs manager for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. "He will bring a thorough knowledge of the industry and already-established relationships with company leaders that will be extremely valuable to the state."
Farmer replaces David Black, who abruptly resigned nearly a year ago. Since that time, Deputy Director and General Counsel Gwen Fuller-McGriff has been juggling interim commissioner responsibilities along with her original duties.
