Terrorism Risks

This past Sunday marked 10 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. I was in the office that day. NAMIC’s then-president Larry Forrester was at a meeting of the Wisconsin Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, where I was yesterday. And while the 2001 NAMIC convention in Washington, D.C., was cancelled as a result of the uncertainty and travel restrictions following the attacks, members’ donations of convention registration fees made possible a $476,000 contribution by the mutual insurance industry for victim relief: $119,000 each to: The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, The Twin Towers Fund, The New York Times 9/11 Neediest Fund, and Salvation Army relief efforts.
