Ohio: General Assembly Adopts Multiple Pro-Insurer Reforms

The Ohio Senate passed Amended Substitute House Bill 278 on Dec. 13 by a 33-0 vote to increase the minimum amount of coverage a vehicle owner must carry to maintain valid proof of financial responsibility; remove the requirement that auto insurance rates be based upon municipal boundaries; and change the non-cancellation period for auto insurance policies from two years to one year. Massachusetts: DOI to Hold Meeting on Filing Issues

Florida: OIR Streamlines Forms Approval Process

House Financial Services Committee Holds Hearing on Volcker Rule

The House Financial Services Committee held a hearing titled “Examining the Impact of the Volcker Rule on Markets, Businesses, Investors and Job Creation, Part II,” on Dec. 13, the second hearing on the proposed Volcker Rule that the committee has held this year. A part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the Volcker Rule prohibits federally insured banks from engaging in proprietary trading and from investing in certain hedge or private equity funds.
