 The Big Premiere/Holiday Reading List 2011

 2012 CCP Schedule Takes Shape

2011 has been a very successful year for NAMIC’s Congressional Contact Program. We have made great progress on issues such as the reform and reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program, legislation that would encourage pre-disaster mitigation efforts by offering federal incentives for states to adopt stronger building codes, and adjusting the investment income election for small insurers, but we must remain vigilant.  Maine: Workers’ Compensation Board Proposes Change to Notice Rule

The Maine Workers’ Compensation board has proposed an amendment to a rule that requires insurers or employers to respond to notice of claims for incapacitating injury within 14 days. (Posted: 12/20/2011 10:37:04 AM)

 Connecticut: Department Revises Hurricane Deductible Standards in Coastal Underwriting Guidelines

As promised by Commissioner Thomas Leonardi in the days following Tropical Storm Irene, the Connecticut Insurance Department has updated its coastal underwriting guidelines for homeowners business to include a requirement that hurricane-force winds have to be recorded in the state in order for such deductibles to apply.  Alabama: Gov. Bentley Says Better to Solve Homeowners Insurance Issues Right Than Quickly

Gov. Robert Bentley made a brief appearance at the third education/information session of the Alabama Affordable Homeowners Insurance Commission Dec. 12 and told the group he knows people want to get something done quickly but that no state has solved this problem yet.  Looking Forward: What End of the Year Gridlock Means for 2012

While Congress wraps up a bitter year of legislating, the gridlock that permeated most of 2011 is expected to dissipate somewhat as both parties look toward the elections in November. Neither party wants a repeat of the constant showdowns that marked the first session of the 112th Congress and rattled worldwide economic markets while sending Congress’ approval ratings to historic lows.  NAMIC Reconvenes Tax Steering Committee

 NAMIC Continues to Shape Dodd-Frank Implementation

In the two years following the recent financial crisis, NAMIC’s advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., were necessarily legislative in focus. However, following the passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in 2010, the federal affairs team has had to quickly pivot to a more regulatory and agency-oriented stance.
